It takes the speaking of words to receive good things, like salvation, from God. Romans 10:6 – 10 says, “6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” We don’t go up to Heaven to bring salvation down to us but rather believing and speaking words brings Heaven’s salvation down to us.
Our words are both an expression of our faith but also an expression of our will. The spirit of faith is that we believe the Word of God and express that belief through our words. Second Corinthians 4:13 says, “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.”
Believer’s need a revelation of how powerful spoken words are and especially negative words are that have been left unchallenged. Words act as agents of limitation in the unseen realm. In the spirit, spoken words never die until we kill them. We need to fight the words that fight us. There is a warfare we have so often ignored, but it is a very powerful warfare because it is fought in the unseen realm.
A. WORDS GO OUT AND WORDS CAN RETURN BUT DO NOT DIE Luke 10:5, 6.
Jesus said in Lk. 10:5, 6, “And into whatsoever house ye enter, FIRST SAY, PEACE BE TO THIS HOUSE. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it; if not, IT SHALL TURN TO YOU AGAIN.”
B. NEGATIVE WORDS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IF LEFT UNATTENDED.
In Ezekiel 18:2 the fathers ate sour grapes and their children’s teeth were set on edge. When bitter words are spoken children hear it and pick up that bitterness (a curse Deuteronomy 29:18-21). (In Numbers 5:12 bitter waters cause the curse.
C. WORDS TRAVEL BEYOND WHERE THEY ARE SPOKEN Matthew 8:5-10.
The centurion who came to Jesus for his servant to be healed understood the power and authority of using words to cause those under his authority to go, come, or do something. He saw Jesus could do the same to sickness which was under His authority and from where He was cause it to leave his servant a distance away. Words release authority and cause things to come and go. Words affect things where the one who spoke them is not present. There is no distance in the spirit realm. Words need no passport, visa, or license to go abroad or cross borders and boundaries.
D. WORDS DO NOT DIE EVEN THOUGH THE PEOPLE WHO SPOKE THEM DO Joshua 6:26.
Words can outlive the person who spoke them. Words can carry over generations whether the words are negative or positive. Words spoken and nothing done about them still come to pass. Joshua curses anyone who builds Jericho Joshua 6:26. Hiel the Bethelite tried to build the foundation of Jericho 1 Kings 16:34. Abiram, his eldest son, died when he began. Segub, his youngest son, died when he set up the gates. This whole event was 500 years after Joshua pronounced the curse. Joshua was not there but what he said came to pass. Words go beyond the life of those who speak them and especially with people who have authority and influence over you.
E. WORDS HAVE A TIME DELAY EFFECT Mark 11:13-24.
Jesus cursed the fig tree but nothing was visibly changed. The next day the disciples found it had dried up from the roots. The words Jesus spoke the day before began to work on the unseen part of the tree, the roots.
F. WORDS CAN AFFECT FUTURE GENERATIONS Matthew 27:24,25.
In Matthew 27:24,25 Pilate says, “I am innocent of the blood of this man,” but the people’s words curse a whole generation. They said (v.25), “His blood be on us and our children.” They put themselves and their children under a curse. The children were not present when their parents spoke those words but were still affected by them. The parents words were fulfilled when Roman General Titus (Luke 23:27-31) leveled the city of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. History says they crushed children’s skulls and cut them from the womb. Once a curse (negative words) leaves its source it must hit somewhere – words do not die until we kill them.
Do not be indifferent or unconcerned about words. Isaiah 54:17 says, “…tongues that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn…,” Sounds like we can and should do something about them in the spirit realm.
