John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free…. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Jesus paid the price on His Cross to purchase freedom for every Believer and disciple to experience. As we continue in His Word we gain knowledge of this wonderful freedom so that we can walk in it. Jesus has truly set us free John 8:36 but our freedom should never make us more bound to sin, satan, or self.
True freedom makes us:
1. Free from sin, satan, and the curse Romans 6:14; Hebrews 2:14,15; Galatians 3:13.
2. Free from trying hard to keep God’s law to merit salvation Galatians 5:1-4.
3. Free to love and serve Galatians 5:13.
4. Free to be led by the Spirit and yield to our own spirit Galatians 5:16, 18, 22, 23.
5. Free to restore and bear others burdens Galatians 6:1, 2.
6. Free to sow to the Spirit and reap life out of it Galatians 6:7-9.
7. Free to do good to the household of faith Galatians 6:10.
We are to stand fast in the liberty where Christ has made us free Galatians 5:1.
Freedom is not:
1. Freedom to be selfish or indulge the flesh Galatians 5:13, 19, 21.
2. Freedom to cover bad behavior in the name of freedom (claiming freedom as a pretext for wrong) 1 Peter 2:15, 16.
3. Freedom to harm others or ourselves 1 Corinthians 8:9.
4. Freedom from all restraints, structure, or regulated order Jude 3; 1 John 3:4.
