Exodus 31:1-6 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 5 And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship. 6 And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;
Wisdom can be defined as insight or skill of what to do that is perfectly suited to the need at hand. In the New Testament, two Greek words for wisdom are:
- Sophia – which is insight into the true nature of things; a broad picture or view as to “what is going on” and “what to do.”
- Phronesis -ability to discern modes of action with a view to their end results: it is insight into the action to take now to get the proper result later.
As Christians we often limit flowing in wisdom to what the preacher does from the pulpit but wisdom is also for work, at our jobs, in our places of business. Here in this text we see God telling Moses to seek out a certain craftsman, Bezaleel, a skilled carpenter, to involve him in the WORK of making the Tabernacle. God was going to give him WISDOM to use his skills to complete the Tabernacle. We can see from this an expansion to the flowing of wisdom:
- It was wisdom to know how to work. He was filled with God’s spirit and wisdom for work.
- It was a worker, a carpenter, not a preacher.
- This is God calling him out by name, Bezaleel (which means in the shadow of God; under His protection).
- God showed this calling and assignment on someone’s life to a leader, Moses.
- The fruit of this wisdom was they got the job done or finished the assignment Exodus 36:1-3.
Some of us are called and anointed to flow in wisdom from the pulpit or ministry work but others are called to flow in wisdom for work on a job or assignment. Wisdom is for work to help us accomplish goals, solve problems, and for all manner of workmanship. Wisdom is available from both God’s Word and the Holy Spirit (Psalm 19:7; Ephesians 1:19; 1 Corinthians 2:9-15). Daily ask God for wisdom on how to do your job, run your business, or accomplish your work or schooling James 1:5.
