WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE MESSED UP

when you mess up
1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Every Christian faces temptation from our adversary. Temptation is common to man for every man is tempted 1 Corinthians 10:13. Temptation, which is an enticement to sin, has always been satan’s weapon to separate a child of God from his relationship with God. Temptation is not a sin, even Jesus was tempted Hebrews 2:18. Temptation has no power if we have no desire or taste for the bait James 1:14. Temptation is not irresistible James 4:7, and yet the Bible still gives encouragement to those who are still struggling with sin and have failed. We need to know what to do when we mess up and that is to be honest and just fess up.

A. ADMIT IT 1 John 1:9.
1. The sooner you admit it, the faster you can fix it. (Do not wait till it is too late. Do not let the devil get a stronghold in you. Do not wait for someone else to point it out to you).
2. Fix it with everyone involved in it and do not allow relationships to remain broken or people to be offended Matthew 5:25.

B. FORSAKE IT Proverbs 28:13.
1. Those who confess and forsake it get mercy.
2. Tell on yourself; see it for what it really is – which is sin.
3. Confess it to God and abandon your excuses.
4. Allow godly sorrow to work in you 2 Corinthians 7:10.

C. FORTIFY YOURSELF Ephesians 1:7
1.Fortify yourself from falling again by realizing your redemption has come. We have redemption.
2. Feed on Christ’s destruction of sin Romans 6.
3. Jesus put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself Isaiah 53:6; Hebrews 9:26.
4. Grace did much more abound in Christ than sin did in Adam Romans 5:20.
5. Jesus destroyed the works of the devil 1 John 3:8.
6. Accept the chastening and get back on course Hebrews 12:11-13. Make straight paths for your feet or a plan for recovery.
