JESUS IS OUR PEACE

jesus is our peace

Romans 5:1, 8-10 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: v.8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

There is a disturbance of peace in our society due to the threat of the coronavirus. If you are waiting for peace from the political realm you may be waiting for some time. There is also spiritual peace that everyone should know about. We Christians have peace with God because we have been reconciled to God, received forgiveness for our sins, and have been declared righteous (acquitted/declared not guilty). We are not under God’s wrath but those who have been reconciled with God have come into harmony with Him and have been received into His favor. We are at peace with God. We have to have this peace with God from being reconciled as the foundation to all other peace such as the peace of God that can daily guard our heart and mind (Philippians 4:7).

The Bible declares and presents the unsaved unregenerate man as hostile to God, spiritually dead, guilty of sin and alienated from Him by wicked works. There can be no peace with this condition of relationship between God and the fallen human race. It also explains the need for reconciliation.

We as Christians have received the reconciliation God offered through the sacrificial death of His Son who was made to be sin for us. God Himself is the Reconciler and loved us while we were yet sinners offering His Son as a sin offering and substitute for us that we might be forgiven, declared righteous, and saved from wrath or judgment for our sins. Jesus has become our peace. The great truth of the Gospel is not that at the moment we receive Jesus as our Savior we are completely changed (outwardly in all we say and do) but rather that at the moment we receive Jesus we are completely forgiven, reconciled, and at peace with God.

Now that we have peace with God we can now grow in grace to be changed outwardly into the image of Jesus Christ day by day in our attitudes and behavior. Grace and peace can be multiplied unto us through the knowledge of God and our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:2). This we can be confident of that He who began a good work in us will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). God won’t give up on us so we shouldn’t give up on ourselves. He is committed to our maturity and we should be also. Stay on a pathway to growth.
