God’s plan for the expansion of the Kingdom is to establish local churches. I love the saying of the great Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke on the importance of the local church when he was asked, Should Christians go to church?
“Think of it like this. Candles stand in candlesticks, light bulbs twist into sockets, and trees grow in soil. Without candlesticks, candles fall. Without electric sockets, bulbs don’t shine. And without soil, trees die. For Christians, the church is a candlestick, a power source, and soil for roots so that you can stand, shine, and grow. Along with the Bible and prayer, the church is one of the rich resources for spiritual life that God has given Christians.”
Every believer who accepts Jesus as Lord also becomes a CHILD IN A FAMILY Eph. 3:14. Jesus said He would declare God’s Name unto His brethren in the midst of the Church Heb. 2:11.
Every believer also becomes a MEMBER IN THE BODY Rom. 12:4; 1 Cor. 12:13-27. A Body is not one member but many.
Every believer also becomes a STONE IN A SPIRITUAL HOUSE 1 Peter 2:4, 5; God’s purpose is not just to save us but He is also building something in the Earth.. We are a part of something bigger than ourselves that He is building Eph. 2:22, 23; Matt. 16:18.
When we were in the world all of our identity was tied to us as individuals: Me, myself, and I as some put it. As Christians we are individual members but we also have our identity (who we are and what we are supposed to do) tied to something bigger or a corporate identity. We need to find our identity as the Church.
