1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
Christians have their entire being from what Jesus did for them and that being is called “In Christ Jesus.” Those who are wise, strong, and of noble birth may boast of what distinguishes them from others (1 Corinthians 1:26) but it is the Christian who has the only true basis for glorying and that is glorying in the Lord and what He has done for us in Christ.
Jesus, by His coming into the world and by what He accomplished for us, became our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. Just like we boldly declare that he that has the Son has eternal life (1 John 5:12) and there is no eternal life outside of the Son (or having Jesus the Son of God as your Lord and Savior) we can boldly declare what we have in Christ Jesus.
Because we have Jesus the Son of God and we are in Christ:
We have wisdom – insight into the true nature of things and knowledge of what to do when we face trials; He is the light of our life (John 8:12).
We have righteousness – the nature within us to live right and do right; He is our cleansing from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:7-9)
We have sanctification – the ability to live holy according to God’s moral standards; He is our energizing power of holiness.
We have redemption – we are set free, delivered, and released from sin, sickness, satan, and the curse; He is our redeeming grace that gives us access to God’s throne now and a resurrection when we die.
God did all this, in order that each of us might accept as our rule of life what is written in Scripture in 1 Corinthians 1:31 which says, “That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” Wisdom, Righteousness, Sanctification, and Redemption have a Name and His Name is Jesus!
