EVERY ONE DOING WHAT IS RIGHT IN THEIR OWN EYES

Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

The book of Judges takes its title from the fact that it records the activities of twelve men and one woman designated as judges (civil/military leaders) raised up by God to deliver Israel in the times of decline after their great leader Joshua died. Whereas Joshua was a book recording mostly their victories, Judges is a book that records mostly defeat. The people had become tired of the fight and war and were becoming complacent. Because they are leaderless, with no central governing voice to hold them accountable to a standard, they follow the path of least resistance. Every man became his own authority and every man did that which was right in his own eyes. The problem with that approach is the Bible calls that the path of the fool. Proverb 12:15 says, “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.” This led to seven declining spirals of defeat and God having to raise up judges to get the nation back on course.

There are absolute standards we use every day in science, math, and in cooperating with the laws of nature that we dare not violate. The same holds true for moral absolutes. Our politically correct world have made themselves expert at deciding what is right and good without God in their calculations. It is destroying America and putting us on the path of the fool.

If there is no absolute moral right and wrong to inform men’s consciences which is the faculty in man that helps him distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil, he then can no longer be held accountable for his actions. This is the whole idea behind the politically correct version of tolerance. It is their attempt to get us to live with evil and moral wrong. This brand of tolerance is a neutralizing tool for destroying an individual’s ability to understand reality in terms of good and evil and no longer react properly to good and evil. Jesus put it this way in John 3:19-21, “19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.” Some Christians suggest we aren’t under any moral law because we have a new covenant, we’re not under the Law of Moses, and are under grace. The truth is, what is good and evil, right and wrong, and defined as sin comes from God’s character which existed before the Law He gave Moses and exists after. His character doesn’t change.

Dear Christian brother and sister it is time to follow the prophet Isaiah’s appeal in Isaiah 58:1, 12, “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins. 12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.”
