Deuteronomy 6:6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
The Northwest Ordinance which is considered one of the organic laws of our nation has something to say about the need for religion and morality being a necessary part of society (Organic laws are a nation’s foundational and fundamental laws that establishes its government. The U.S Code lists them to be: The Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, The Northwest Ordinance, and the Constitution). The Northwest Ordinance established a means and precedence by which the United States could expand westward. It was initially an Ordinance for the government of the Territory of the United States northwest of the Ohio River. Established as law by Congress on July 13, 1787 it included a promise for funding to go toward public education from revenue from the sale of a portion of each township.
One of the most famous portions quoted being Article 3 part of which says, “Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged.” Note that religion, morality and knowledge are linked together and are absolutely needed for good government and happiness. I would also point out government is to be an encourager of schools and the means of education not ruling over and controlling them. This to me is a very clear endorsement of the value of religion and morals in our society including in schools.
So much for the myth and idea of a secular state or an irreligious nation. By the way, the prevailing religion of the era was Christianity. That also contradicts the myth of Christians are supposed to keep their morality in the Church and have no part in education, politics or law. The reality is that someone’s values will always be taught in education and it is just a choice of whose values they will be.
Recall that in 2016, the Department of Justice and Department of Education sent a letter they determined was “significant guidance,” to every public school district. The letter is instructing them by decree that students who self identify as a member of the opposite sex (contrary to their biological and chromosome defined birth sex) ought to have unrestrained access to restrooms (and locker rooms) that align with their gender identity. These were regulations teachers and administrators must comply with or face the threat of defunding of federal aid under Title IX. That is an oppressive and coercive use of government power to gain compliance to push an agenda. Whose values and morality were being enforced? Though not a law passed by the democratic process through Congress, it was an outrageous policy to force on the majority of America’s families, children, school administrators, and teachers. Thank God this “significant Federal guidance,” was withdrawn from Title IX by the present administration.
Most Christian parents have never determined a tipping point or line in the sand with regard to public school education and do not realize the Progressives ideological takeover of public education. It is a far cry from Biblical standards but even from its own like in the Northwest Ordinance Article 3. Deuteronomy 6:6-9 is part of the instruction Moses gave Israel as a key to the survival and continuance of their nation. Parents need to teach their children what is moral, right and wrong, good and evil from the standards in God’s Moral Law and the Word of God. Don’t surrender your children to the State.
