Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Jesus was teaching how to live an anxiety free life by not taking thoughts about our basic necessities of life and worrying about the future (Matthew 6:19-34). As one of the keys to remove anxiety from our lives is to have our priorities in line with God. A priority is a right to precedence and attention. Our decisions determine the direction of our lives but it is our priorities that influence our decisions. Priorities help limit our choices to the most necessary things in line with our values and responsibilities and protect us from trying to do everything (Luke 10:38-42).
Jesus culminated His teaching in Matthew 6 with telling us to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all the things people worry about will be added to us. First means first in time, place, order, or importance. The Kingdom of God is the sphere of God’s rule, authority, will, and plans in the Earth. Putting those things first and giving them the right of precedence and attention is what we are to seek or strive after. Seeking first His righteousness is easy if we simply put His Word first place in our lives. We submit to His Word as to what is right in every and any situation. Seeking first His Kingdom is a matter of priorities and what we put at the center of our life, living, and labor. We can seek first His Kingdom by:
CHRIST at the center of our LIFE
CHURCH at the center of our LIVING
COMMISSION at the center of our LABOR
(The Great Commission Mark 16:15-20; Matthew 28:18-20)
