Evangelism is for everybody, but all efforts to evangelize must begin in prayer. Our Commission is to preach the Gospel which is the power of God unto salvation but it also needs under-girded by payer. We know it’s God’s will for all men to be saved and that no one should perish (1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9), but Psalm 2:8 says, “Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.” We need to pray specifically for people to be saved and to come into the Kingdom of God through our services, corporate efforts and individual efforts.

There’s a lot that can hinder a person from receiving Jesus, and it’s our duty to exercise our authority in prayer against these hindrances. Jesus gave us keys of authority to use and they can be used against evil forces (Matthew 16:19). Part of the reason of why a person is unsaved or rebels against the things of God is:

  1. The whole world lieth in wickedness.

1 John 5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

[literally, wickedness means under the power of the evil one].

  1. Every unsaved person has his mind blinded & his understanding darkened.

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Ephesians 4:17,18 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, [v. 18] Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.

  1. Every unsaved person is walking according to (under the influence, dominion, control of) another spirit.

Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of

the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.

  1. Every unsaved person is deceived by his own heart, the deceitfulness of sin, and satan & demonic influences.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Hebrews 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

We need to pray against the wickedness, blindness, darkness and deception operating in and around the unsaved person and that a laborer would be sent forth to share the Gospel with him (Matthew 9:38). We also must be sharing the Gospel ourselves and be the laborer who is the answer to the prayer of someone else.
