God has people he calls and equips with ministry gifts to do certain works of the ministry (Ephesians 4:8-11). In addition to these ministries, every believer has grace from God that equips them for their individual ministry function (Romans 12:6-10). There is also a work of the ministry all saved people have a responsibility to do which is the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:17-21), being a witness (Acts 1:8), or being obedient to the Great Commission (Mark 16:15-20).
We do not have to be Evangelists to evangelize. We also do not have to become someone or something we are not in order to share our faith. God uses all of us through the gifts He has placed in us and qualities He has created us with. Evangelism isn’t:
A spiritual gift.
A personality trait of outgoing personality types.
A personal preference.
It is a commission and a command. It is a matter of obedience to a command and the commanded mission of the church. Nobody gets saved without contact with the Gospel and if there isn’t much sowing of the seeds of the Gospel there isn’t much of a harvest. All influence is preceded by an investment of some kind. Sometimes we talk about and want a harvest but want a harvest with no labor or investment. We want a harvest without the process which demands that we give of ourselves and invest some effort toward. Let’s invest ourselves and do some business for Jesus (occupy Luke 19:13) until He comes.
