Christianity is more than a mere religion of words. It’s a supernatural life with a supernatural walk with a supernatural God. We’ve received supernatural power (Ac. 1:8). We are for signs and wonders (Is. 8:18) and supernatural signs are to follow us (Mark 16:20). We are born of the Spirit, baptized in the Spirit, and we’re to manifest the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
First Corinthians 12:7 says the manifestations of the Spirit are given to EVERY man to profit withal. To walk in these manifestations of supernatural power, there are truths and principles from the Word of God that help us cooperate and be positioned to yield to them.
1. GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THE GIFTS ARE AND HOW THEY OPERATE
1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Ignorance here means to be without knowledge. We can lack knowledge both of what the gifts are and how they operate. We can study how they operated through people in the Bible and those God uses in the Church today.
2. DESIRE THEM ZEALOUSLY AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY
1 Corinthians Follow after love, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy.
1 Corinthians 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
God doesn’t manifest where He is not wanted or diligently sought after.
3. PRAY THAT GOD WOULD GRANT THEM AND STAY BUILT UP IN PRAYER
Ac. 4:29,30 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy Word, (v 30) By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
Jude 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
Prayer demonstrates our expectancy of God as well as keeps our spirit edified.
4. WORSHIP GOD AS A LIFESTYLE
Revelation 12:10 … worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
John 4:23, 24 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him.
Worship develops intimacy with God and a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.
5. DEVELOP A SENSITIVITY AND CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN YOU
2 Corinthians 6:16 For what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the Living God….
1 Corinthians 6:19 What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
The Holy Spirit can be lied to (Acts 5:3); resisted (Acts 7:51); blasphemed (Matthew 12:31); quenched (1 Thessalonians 5:15); grieved (Ephesians 4:30); despised (Hebrews 10:29).
6. ESPECIALLY COVET OR DESIRE TO PROPHESY
1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather (and more; and beyond that) that ye may prophesy.
The words of prophesy bubble up in you for speaking words that build up, stir up, and cheer up. All the gifts of the Spirit flow up from the same place in you that if you can yield to prophesy, you can yield to moving in the other gifts.
7. BE COMMITTED TO MEETING OTHERS NEEDS, BUILDING OTHERS UP, FOCUSING OUTWARD IN VISION.
1 Corinthians 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
A person with a self-centered life focus rarely sees these manifestations of the Spirit which God gives to supernaturally empower our ministry to meet the needs of people. Be a person of action, out to help hurting people.
