The grace of God, His unconditional, unmerited favor, is to reign in the life of a Christian. It includes the remission of our sins in salvation and the forgiveness of our sins from confession after salvation. This doesn’t mean that grace and forgiveness are without payment/price. The total reign of God’s grace was purchased by the precious blood of Jesus. We sing about the blood, we use the authority of the name of Jesus which was purchased by the blood, and we have continual access to God’s grace by the blood of Jesus, but we need to see what the blood means to our heavenly Father.
Due to man’s sin, man is far off from God. There’s a penalty for sin and justice is demanded. God approaches man and gives various covenants involving the shedding of blood. Sinful man cannot approach a holy God without this provision of blood (the first provision given to Adam and Eve in Gen. 3:21). The only reason the sin was covered is because an innocent substitute has met the demands against the sinner, and this atoning sacrifice is only accepted with the shedding of blood. The offering of atoning/sacrificial blood indicated on the sinner’s part:
- Acknowledgment of one’s guilt;
- Acknowledgment of sin’s penalty – death;
- Acknowledgment of God’s acceptance of an innocent substitute as payment for sin’s penalty.
To the Father, the Blood of Jesus SATISFIES the claims of justice against us.
Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation (satisfaction/mercy seat) through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
It’s precious. It’s incorruptible. It was without blemish and spot. The innocent for the guilty. It’s enough to satisfy and more than enough to save.
To the Father, the Blood of Jesus JUSTIFIES.
Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Romans 4:25-5:125 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. 5:1 Therefore
being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Justified is to be acquitted; we are given a not guilty verdict. We are declared lawfully righteous. God can treat us just as if we’d never sinned. Our judgment/guilty verdict fell on the blood of an innocent substitute. The highest court in the universe – the throne room of God says “not guilty.”
To the Father the Blood PURIFIES
Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince
of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, Washed us from our sins.
The eternal spot remover of all stains and blemishes. When we get saved, we’re covered by the blood.
Not sprinkled but washed.
To the Father the Blood TESTIFIES
Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
The blood of Jesus was poured out into heaven itself. His blood speaks out better things than that of Abel. His
blood cries out “mercy, mercy, mercy.” His blood is a witness/testimony in the ears of God and in the face of
our accuser. We don’t have to plead our case. The blood of Jesus pleads our case. It testifies that we’ve been
blood bought, blood washed. God is satisfied; we’re justified and purified.
To the Father the Blood RECONCILES
Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the BLOOD OF HIS CROSS, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
We were at one time enemies and alienated from God deserving His wrath. Jesus ‘death through the BLOOD OF HIS CROSS, satisfies the just requirements of God removing our sin problem and reconciles us to God so now we have his favor and blessing. The BLOOD OF HIS CROSS is the blood of our atonement.
