Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the BLOOD OF HIS CROSS, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled. 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: 23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
The fullness of all that we have as Christians pertaining to all spiritual blessings are in Christ and were made possible by the BLOOD OF HIS CROSS. In the Old Testament it is the blood which is said to be the life of the flesh or blood represents life. To shed blood was to take life. In the Old Testament sacrificial system the blood was an element to make atonement, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul Lev 17:11.”
Atonement would in effect do two things: turn away wrath (remove the problem) and make one favorably inclined toward (reconcile). All the Old Testament sacrifices were representative of and pointed toward the sacrifice of Jesus and the shedding of His blood to atone for us. We were at one time enemies and alienated from God deserving His wrath. Jesus ‘death through the BLOOD OF HIS CROSS, satisfies the just requirements of God removing our sin problem and reconciles us to God so now we have his favor and blessing. The BLOOD OF HIS CROSS is the blood of our atonement.
Through the BLOOD OF HIS CROSS our sins are remitted (dismissed), and we are justified, redeemed, forgiven, reconciled, sanctified, cleansed, favored, and blessed. Thank God for the BLOOD OF HIS CROSS.
