STAY OUT OF THE DITCH

stay-out-of-the-ditch

Matthew 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

The regeneration of the Holy Ghost is the means by which the eyes of the spiritually blind are opened to see the Kingdom of God. Regeneration is the new birth, new life, and literally means to become again. Without regeneration men are spiritually blind. The main cause of spiritual blindness is revealed in Scripture from 2 Corinthians 4:4 which says, “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” If those who lead others in any capacity are blind (the blind leading the blind) they both are headed for the ditch (Matthew 15:14).

I don’t know about you but I am tired of our political leaders leading this nation into the ditch. Some spiritual leaders in the Church have done the same thing. A loss of the fear of God in national leaders causes spiritual blindness and a national consequence of that blindness is that its legal system becomes unjust (Jeremiah 5:24-29).

On a personal level, when a person is born again, regenerated by the Spirit of God (Titus 3:4-7), their spiritual eyes are opened and they can begin to see God, discern, and understand spiritual things. Jesus told Nicodemus the spiritual experience of being born again (regeneration) was necessary to see the spiritual Kingdom of God (John 3:3). They become a real born again Christian.

A Christian must continue in the Word of God and maintain his fellowship with God in order for the light that brings spiritual sight, discernment, and understanding to increase. He must also avoid the things that satan uses, even after he is saved, to cause blindness to his spiritual sight. We cannot walk in darkness and expect to see God clearly. Spiritual blindness will take us into a ditch too. What blinds?

HATE BLINDS
1 John 2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. 10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. 11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

NEGLIGENCE BLINDS
2 Peter 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

LUKEWARMNESS BLINDS
Revelation 3:15-17 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.

SEXUAL SIN BLINDS
Genesis 19:5-7, 10, 11 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. 6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, 7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly….10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. 11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

LOSS OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD BLINDS
Jeremiah 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord God of hosts.

Jeremiah 5:21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: 22 Fear ye not me? saith the Lord: will ye not tremble at my presence, … 24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God, … 31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

LIVING UNHOLY BLINDS
Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.

We need to pray for all those in authority in our nation and the Church that they will have eyes that see, ears that hear, and a heart that understands the Word, righteousness, and spiritual things of God Proverb 20:12; Proverb 14:34; Matthew 13:11-17.
