Psalm 119:9 “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee.”
Some leave the impression by their preaching that sin is no longer an issue for Christians. Listen to me: Sin is still deadly and it will hurt your life. Yes, the provision for sin to no longer be a problem has been made available but that doesn’t mean sin is no longer an issue. Christians still get tempted and sin.
We can overcome any sin and resist any temptation so sin does not have to be inevitable. The Psalmist added in Psalm 119:9 “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee.” Sin in your life will keep you from the Word of God but the Word of God in your life will keep you from sin. To take heed means to listen and obey.
Jesus completed the work of holiness IN us and is made unto us sanctification (holiness) (1 Corinthians 1:30) so we can perfect (accomplish; bring about) it (2 Corinthians 7:1) or work it OUT in our lifestyle. When we perfect something we get good at it. Why not get good at being holy instead of getting good at sinning? Second Corinthians 7:1 says, “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
