Anyone truly following the Lord as they ought to is a serious threat to the kingdom of darkness. Our enemy’s goal after he lost us to Christ and could no longer blind our minds to the truth of the Gospel is to keep us from moving forward spiritually. That means opposition and warfare against our advance. Limited in his power over us by the bruising he took at the Cross from Jesus, He knows he must trick us into stopping our own advance. His favorite strategy is to lure us off the path of advancement by an act of our own choosing by getting us to compromise and make concessions.
The Bible account of Moses going to Pharaoh shows this tactic very clearly. Remember, Pharaoh, (a type and shadow of satan) tried to use four different tactics to get God’s people to make concessions and compromise. God wanted them completely released from Pharoah’s hold with no concessions or compromise. God told Moses to leave Egypt, take a three day journey, and offer a sacrifice unto Him. He would stretch out His hand and smite Egypt because their enemy would not let them go Exodus 3:15-22. Pharoah knew he couldn’t stop them unless he could get them to stop themselves. He offers them four concessions to compromise and settle for less than God’s best.
- Exodus 8:25 – Go sacrifice, but stay in Egypt.
- Exodus 8:28 – Go sacrifice, but don’t go too far; stay close to Egypt.
- Exodus 10:8-11 – Go sacrifice but leave your family behind in Egypt.
- Exodus 10:24 – Go sacrifice but leave your money, your livestock, flocks, and possessions in Egypt.
I love what Moses said to Pharoah in Exodus 10:26, “Not a hoof left in Egypt.” The lesson is don’t make any deals, bargains, or compromises with the devil. Whatever little concession you make will ultimately come back to bite you. God’s power is always ready to be revealed to help us walk forward without compromise at the entry into salvation and in our walk with the Lord after salvation.
I’ve seen many Christians compromise and how it forces a division of loyalty to their Lord. I’ve seen preachers try to make Christianity more palatable to non Christians or undiscipled believers but it only causes people to become partakers of other mens sins rather than reproving them Ephesians 5:11. My observation is that Christians who compromise are largely unfulfilled and therefore their heart affections and eyes are always looking for what is missing. Because they usually don’t have much of the Word of God rooted in their heart, their judgment isn’t refined to be able to discern the holy from the profane; the clean from the unclean Ezekiel 44:23. This makes them minimize the evil and the danger of compromising as well as thinking that the cost of obedience is too high. The lines become blurred. There is usually an entry point into a wrong relationship, activity, or involvement that exposes them to the compromise. This all leads them to live in a degree of darkness, secrecy, and avoidance of accountability to hide their double life.
God’s power is ready to be revealed in the last days in our lives (1 Peter 1:5) like God showed His power to Moses so there is no need to compromise. It is time to move forward and say “No deals devil.”
