THE WORD MADE FLESH

THE WORD MADE FLESH

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus is introduced in John’s Gospel as the Word, and the Word made flesh John 1:1-4, 14. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

He is introduced as the Word (Logos in the Greek) because it was God in communication, God expressing Himself, God with a message, a Divine revelation. “Logos” is a Greek word which means a collection of things in the mind and spoken sounds or written letters which reveal the mind. We communicate what is in our mind by finding a way to relate those thoughts to others. We speak, write, use physical movements and our thoughts are brought out into the open so others can know what we are thinking. Christmas is an example of the most wonderful way God made His thoughts known to mankind.

John in the first chapter of his Gospel presents the Lord Jesus in seven most unique ways:

– He is the Word (1:1-3, 14)

– He is the Light (1:4-13)

– He is the Son of God (1:15-18, 30-34, 49)

– He is the Christ (1:19-28, 35-42)

– He is the Lamb of God (1:29, 35, and 36)

– He is the King of Israel (1:43-49)

– He is the Son of Man (1:50-51)

God has spoken in ways to us in times past (visions, dreams, and prophets) but in these Last Days has spoken unto us by His Son Hebrews 1:1, 2. He is the clearest message of who God is and what God has to say. He is the Personal Word and Divine expression of God. We have not been given the silent treatment, ignored, frozen out, or abandoned by Him. He is a God who isn’t a million miles away that could care less about what we are going through but He came to where we were and unveiled Himself.

When we need something to begin in our life, He is the Word that begins things John 1:1, 2.

When we need something created that is not presently there, He is the Word that created and can create all things John 1:3.

When we need refreshed, invigorated, and to see things clearly He is the Word that is life and light John 1:4.
