Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
The truths revealed about the Christmas story speak beyond the Christmas and Holiday Season. No matter what you are facing in your life, no matter how impossible it looks, no matter how overwhelmed you may feel, there is always hope. We serve a God Who can conquer impossible situations and changeless ruthlessly abnormal circumstances. Luke 1:37 says, “For with God, nothing shall be impossible.” When something is impossible it means it is not capable of being done or not capable of happening. Think about the events recorded around the conception and birth of Jesus in Luke 1:26-38.
- Elizabeth – a senior citizen, barren, having a child. Impossible! But God caused her to shout and she conceived and gave birth to John the Baptist whose ministry would pave the way for Jesus to come on the scene.
- Mary – a virgin, becoming pregnant, and remaining a virgin. Impossible! But married conceived and gave flesh to the Son of God to become the Son of man.
- God – Who becomes a Man without ceasing to be God. Impossible! But Immanuel was born, God with us.
- The human race – guilty, spiritually dead, and having nothing that could pay the debt that sin created to restore a relationship with a Holy and Righteous God. Impossible! Yet God pays the debt, forgives man’s sin, restores righteousness to him, and gives him eternal life without any work on his part to merit it.
God conquered impossible then and He can conquer impossible today if you are facing it in your life. Christmas should be a reminder that God can conquer impossible. Don’t give up, don’t despair, don’t run away from God but run to Him. Be like Mary who responded in faith to the hope she had from what God said by saying, “… be it unto me according to thy word… Luke 1:38.”
