STRESS CAN BE A CALL TO CHANGE

Stress can be a call to change

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Many Christians are uptight, under stress, and struggling. Stress is mental and emotional strain, tension, and pressure. There are two things about stress that seem to be common about a person who feels stressed:

  1. A person feels demands exceed resources.
  2. A person feels or has a sense of little or no control over an event/situation.

A lot of stress is a byproduct of 21st century living. Yes, we need to get enough sleep, eat properly, and exercise but some stress can be a violation against God’s call to rest and peace. Every stressful thing is not always a problem to be prayed about but it can sometimes be a call to repentance and change. Each place or point of stress can be a place where we are not yoked to Jesus, learning of Him, and doing His will. When we pursue our own aims convinced they are God’s, it will always lead to stress. Peace can only rule our heart when we completely abandon our personal desires in order to obey His will.

As long as we seek to satisfy our desire for affirmation and success by pleasing others stress will remain. Jesus said His yoke is easy and His burden is light Matthew 11:28-30. The yoke is His will. Don’t be yoked to a “will’ of your own making or plow in a field of your own.

  1. Jesus has a “will” about everything in our life; all we need to do is please Him.

Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

  1. He wants us to know His “will” or learn about it.

Ephesians 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

  1. God gives us enough grace (enabling power) everyday to follow that “will.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Jesus paid the price for every Christian to live burden free, anxiety free, and stress free. There is grace to help you that you can find at God’s throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16).
