John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Every Christian has freedom in Christ Jesus from sin, sickness, satan, and the curse purchased by the work of Jesus on the Cross. We are no longer under the authority of darkness but have been translated into the kingdom of God’s Son. Galatians 5:1 tells us our freedom is something we have to stand fast in and for. The whole Book of Galatians gives insight to our freedom in Christ.
Freedom in Christ by God’s grace is not freedom to be lawless. False teachers and false teachings teach a kind of freedom in Christ or by grace that is unauthorized by God’s Word. They promote lawlessness in the name of freedom and license in the name of grace. False teachers always use the promise of liberty as bait or grace as a cover for sinning (2 Peter chapter 2). Grace was never given as a cover for sinning. Our freedom in Christ is to do what is right not wrong and liberty to do as we ought to not as we want to.
Jesus has truly set us free John 8:36. True freedom makes us:
- FREE FROM SIN, SATAN, SICKNESS, AND THE CURSE
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Matthew 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
- FREE FROM TRYING HARD TO KEEP GOD’S LAW TO MERIT SALVATION OR RIGHTEOUSNESS
Galatians 5:1-4 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
- FREE TO LOVE AND SERVE
Galatians 5:13 For brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
- FREE TO BE LED BY THE SPIRIT AND YIELD TO OUR OWN SPIRIT
Galatians 5:16, 18 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh…. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
- FREE TO RESTORE AND BEAR OTHERS BURDENS
Galatians 6:1-2 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
- FREE TO SOW TO THE SPIRIT AND REAP LIFE OUT OF IT
Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
- FREE TO DO GOOD TO THE HOUSEHOLD OF FAITH
Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
