John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
When a person receives Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior they are “born-again” as a child of God. At this point the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost comes to dwell WITHIN them. This is not the “Baptism of the Holy Ghost” experience (described in Acts 1:8), but the “Born-Again” experience. The Baptism of the Holy Ghost is available to anyone immediately after they have become a child of God (Luke 11:13). During this second spiritual experience the Holy Ghost now comes UPON the person, baptizing them with the power of God (Acts 1:8).
It is in our salvation experience, though, that the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us. The Third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Ghost (Spirit), comes to dwell within us making our bodies the very temple of the Holy Ghost. You can be born-again, baptized in the Holy Ghost with the physical evidence of speaking in other tongues, and not be conscious of His indwelling presence. The Holy Ghost is not just here to help us with the work of God, but with our walk with God. All we have to do is simply walk in the light of the Word in our everyday life of what it says He will do for us (teach, guide, comfort, strengthen…). If we do not know what the Scriptures say about what He will do, we cannot walk in the light of the Word on it. The light has to be there. How can you be acquainted with the Holy Ghost? Find out what the Word of God says He will do. If we would just recognize He is dwelling within us, He will do whatever the Word of God unveils He will do.
The Bible says that the Holy Ghost:
John 15:26 comforts/testifies
John 14:26 teaches/brings things to our remembrance
John 16:12‑14 guides/hears from Jesus/speaks/glorifies Jesus
Acts 16:6, 7 commands, forbids, restrains, doesn’t permit, directs the efforts of the church
Acts 13:2 sends men forth into ministry
Acts 20:28 gives oversight in the church
Acts 15:28 settles disputes, gives His judgment
Romans 8:14 leads
Romans 8:16 bears witness with our spirit
Romans 8:26 helps us with our weaknesses/intercedes
Romans 9:1 bears witness in our conscience
1 Corinthians 2:10, 13 searches the deep things of God/reveals/teaches
Ephesians 3:16; 2 Timothy 4:17, 18 strengthens
Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 29 speaks
There is a life in the spirit with the Holy Ghost too few Christians even know about let alone enjoy. It is time to come up in spiritual things while the world around us is sinking deeper and deeper in carnal things.
