Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
It is impossible to live in this earth and avoid offenses that cause emotional pain. People will trespass against us and this can present an opportunity to be offended. We do not have to take offence or become offended but it is impossible living on Earth to avoid being exposed to them. If we become offended, a true Christian knows how to process the hurt and pain in a Biblical way. Jesus said we would be exposed to and experience offenses in Luke 17:1, “Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!”
Offences are anything that outrages the senses Luke 17:1 and that ignite the emotions 2 Corinthians 11:29. Offenses we take are also stumbling blocks deliberately used by satan to stop us in our destiny. They waste time and stop us from being productive and useful. They can sever divinely joined relationships. They are traps to snare us in emotional turmoil and torment. The pain they cause is real and in seeking relief there are certain things that are unbiblical and do not work. Don’t ignore your pain but process it Biblically. Remedies for hurt or pain that do not work:
- Ignoring it Matthew 18:15; Luke 17:3, 4.
- Running from it Psalm 55:6, 8.
- Hiding it Leviticus 19:17-19.
- Resenting it Leviticus 19:17-19.
- Worrying about it Psalm 37:8.
- Covering it up James 5:16.
Jesus said He would give us power over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt us Luke 10:19. By the power in the Word (Heb. 4:12), the anointing and comfort of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 61:1-3) we can come to a point of forgiveness where we release those who offended Ephesians 4:31, 31 and or in emotional honesty and loving communication go to them and get it reconciled Matthew 18:15-18.
