Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Jesus mentioned three different levels of prayer in Luke 11:9, 10:
- Prayer is asking
- Prayer is seeking
- Prayer is knocking
The prayer that is knocking is mostly done where a door is closed. The knocking is on doors, not to overcome any reluctance on God’s part but, against the resistance of the enemy. We also cannot change a person’s free will but our God can surely influence it. What doors need to be opened:
- DOORS OF SALVATION (Acts 14:27)
Acts 14:27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.
- DOORS OF RESTORED FELLOWSHIP (Revelation 3:20)
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
- DOORS OF DELIVERANCE (Acts 12:5‑10)
Acts 12:5 Peter therefore was KEPT IN PRISON: but PRAYER WAS MADE WITHOUT CEASING of the church unto God for him. 6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the KEEPERS BEFORE THE DOOR KEPT THE PRISON. 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. 8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. 9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; WHICH OPENED TO THEM OF HIS OWN ACCORD: and they went out, and passed on through one
Paul asked for prayer to be delivered from the disobedient (Romans 15:30‑32) and to be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men (2 Thessalonians 3:1,2).
- DOORS OF MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY (1 Corinthians 16:9; 2 Corinthians 2:12)
1 Corinthians 16:9 For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
2 Corinthians 2:12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,
- DOORS OF UTTERANCE (Colossians 4:2‑4)
Colossians 4:2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; 3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: 4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
This is a door to speak the Word in a situation or setting; to speak into a person’s life.
