When Adam and Eve fell into sin in the Garden of Eden God prophesied the defeat of the perpetrator of their temptation to sin which was the devil, the serpent and deceiver. Jesus, the Seed of the woman would deal a fatal blow to the enemy of God and man. In the last book of the Bible we learn of satan’s main mode of operation in the Earth against God and man and that is deception, deceit, and lies. Revelation 12:9 says, “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
Of all that can be said of the character of the devil nothing could be more true than “the devil is a liar.” John 8:44 says, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” Satan, the liar and his company of lying spirits, pour lies on the Believer all day long about oneself, others, our feelings and others’ feelings. Lies about the past, present and future. Lies about sin, God, evil, and people. He is a liar, and his major power is in his being able to remain undetected, hidden or covered. He fears disclosure, exposure and dreads the light of God’s truth. The devil hates to be scrutinized, examined and discerned.
Jesus won the victory for us over the devil who deceives the whole world. To walk in that victory over the devil as liar and his lies we must:
Know the truth (John 8:32)
2. Walk in truth (3 John 4)
3. Do the truth (John 3:21)
4. Rejoice in the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6)
5. Love the truth (2 Thessalonians 3:10)
6. Be loyal to the truth (2 Corinthians 13:8)
7. Speak the truth (Ephesians 4:15)
Truth is foremost in dealing with the devil. Truth is light and any untruth is darkness. He is the prince of darkness/father of lies or untruth. All our armor of light (Romans 13:12) is held up with the girdle or belt of truth (Ephesians 6:14). Truth is our protection. We have the weapon of truth to use against the devil but we also have a personal responsibility toward lies and we must also be determined to put away all lies/lying and to speak the truth.
Ephesians 4:15, 25 says, “But speaking the truth in love may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ. V.25 Wherefore putting away (laying aside) lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.” Don’t let the devil use your mouth. Speak the truth of God’s Word in all of your relationships and put away telling lies, living a lie, and all false statements intended to deceive.
