Our world could use a dose of plain old honesty in light of all of the lies, bearing false witness, and fake news that seems to be a plague. Christians need to tell the truth too and be examples of honesty. One of the principles revealed in the OT Law for entry into the Promised Land or the land God destined His people to live in was being honest. Here in Deuteronomy 16:20 it is translated just, “That which is altogether just (honest) shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” We’re not under the Law as a code, way of life, or rule of living before God but the moral law and principle of honesty still applies.
Honesty means being sincere, truthful, genuine, fair, trustworthy, and loyal with integrity. It means telling the truth, not lying, cheating, or stealing. Telling the truth despite consequences and being true when voicing one’s opinion in kind thoughtful ways. It is doing what we know is right and not betraying ourselves or going against what our conscience dictates. Proverb 12:19, and 22 says, “The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. (v.22) Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are His delight.” In the New Testament it says we are to put away all lies and lying Ephesians 4:15, 25. Dishonest people and people who lie never reach their destiny.
1. False statements.
2. False impressions.
3. Vague, incomplete half-truth statements.
1. Have an intent to mislead.
2. Either falsify or conceal.
Let’s be honest, shame the devil, the father of lies, and go forward into our destiny.
