“I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten… And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed” (Joel 2:25-26).
As we have come to the end of another year to begin a New Year it is good to know that we can start over. This past year may have been filled with disappointments, discouragements, and loss but we can still have a new year with different outcomes. The reason for my optimism is that we serve a God of restoration and He can restore our wasted years.
Sometimes success is when you just have to pick yourself up and carry on. Sometimes strength shows not only in our ability to persist but in the ability to start over. We can pick ourselves up, carry on, and start over because we serve a God of restoration and a God whose mercies are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22 says, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” We don’t need a new day or new year to start over but a new mindset that knows that we serve a God of restoration who is the Faithful God (Deuteronomy 7:9).
Many things may change in 2018 but one thing for sure that will never change is God’s faithfulness to His Word. “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good Numbers 23:19?” He can be depended on and relied upon. We can start over by putting His Word first place in our lives in 2018 and put our faith in Him for a New Year.
