God has a purpose for all of our lives. His purpose is His intention, plan, and what He had in mind for our life while living on this Earth. Our purpose which is determined by God requires us to discover it. If a believer’s purpose is foreordained by God (Eph. 2:10) why is it that so many do not know it? I would ask the following questions:
- HAVE YOU SOUGHT GOD DILIGENTLY TO FIND IT Hebrews 11:6?
Colossians 3:3 says our life is hid (concealed; covered; kept secret) with Christ in God. It is not hidden from us but for us to discover. He rewards the diligent seeker and he who seeks finds. We have to seek out the knowledge of who we are in Christ and renew our minds to our identity in Him. Our purpose is a part of the identity we have by grace which is our identity in Christ 1 Cor. 15:10. God’s Spirit leads us as we actively seek God Rom. 8:14).
HAVE YOU PRAYED IN THE SPIRIT ABOUT IT 1 Corinthians 14:2?
When we pray in the spirit it says we are speaking mysteries or divine secrets. Praying in the spirit unveils the secrets. If you do not pray then it is very likely that the weakest part of your being is dominating you Matthew 26:41. Flesh and blood cannot reveal it to you Galatians 1:15, 16.
HAVE YOU STUDIED AND MEDITATED IN GOD’S WORD (Joshua 1:8).
Meditation in the Word allows you to tap into the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit who can unveil to you things that natural eyes cannot see, natural ears cannot hear, and the things God has prepared for those that love Him 1 Corinthians 2:9-13.
HAVE YOU PLANTED YOURSELF IN THE LOCAL CHURCH Psalm 92:12-14?
Only planted things flourish. God always assigns us to a person, a people, or a place – Aaron to Moses; Moses to the Israelites; Elijah to Elisha; Timothy to Paul; Paul to the Gentiles; Peter to the Jews; and God sets every member in the Body as it pleases Him 1 Cor. 12:18. Our gifts which are an inward indicator of our purpose God designed into us often surface as we serve others. The local church is also where God has set leadership gifts to help you grow and know Eph. 4:11. Are you properly relating to them?
HAVE YOU ENTANGLED YOURSELF IN THE AFFAIRS OF THIS LIFE 2 Timothy 2:2?
Sometimes our present life’s activities, interests, and pursuits are too dear to us Acts 20:24 and this hinders us obeying God. Luke 9:57-62 lists three entanglements Jesus addressed when He asked three different people to follow Him: money; security; other relationships. They allowed lesser things to be first.
HAVE YOU OBEYED THE GENERAL PURPOSES AND CALLING OF ALL BELIEVERS TO: WORSHIP, FELLOWSHIP, EVANGELISM, SERVICE, DISCIPLESHIP, AND STEWARDSHIP?
You cannot skip over obedience to general purposes and walk into your specific purpose. Most often we have to walk in the light we have first (from what His Word already reveals) before more light about our specific purpose comes to us 1 John 1:5-7.
- ARE YOU WALKING IN LOVE 1 John 2:8-11?
When we step out of love we step into darkness and cannot see things clearly. When we walk in love we walk in the light and there’s no stumbling in our walk. Our purpose comes from God and we must be in fellowship with Him. God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
- ARE YOU AWARE OF ANY GIFTS OF GRACE ROMANS 12:6-8, MINISTRY GIFTS EPHESIANS 4:8, 11, OR GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT 1 CORINTHIANS 12:9-11 IN YOUR LIFE?
Gifts are given us to equip us to function and serve God in some way. They empower and enable us for our assignment and the works we have been foreordained to do Ephesians 2:10. All members have grace, a place, and a function by God’s design so there are no unused members. What we are born to do for God we are built to do with gifts given to us 1 Peter 4:10.
