OUR BLESSED ASSURANCE

1 Corinthians 15:53-58 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord,”

Revelation 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ conquered death and has given us a victory that no one else could give.  He takes the sting out of death and gives us the victory over it by grace. What the Law could not do Jesus did—He became sin and conquered death, hell, and the grave.

You might ask, “How did Jesus’ victory take the sting out of death or what did His victory do for the Believer?”

  1. GOD ASSURES US THAT THE SEPARATION WE EXPERIENCE IN THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE IS NOT PERMANENT; A REUNION AWAITS US.

One day there will be a reunion of believing ones never to be separated again. Death is not the end, one day there will be a reunion.

“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words,” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

  1. WE ARE ASSURED THAT THIS SEPARATION IS A DEPARTURE FOR OUR LOVED ONES TO BE IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD.

“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord,” 2 Corinthians 5:8.

There is no intermediate state but instant entrance into God’s presence.

  1. WE ARE ASSURED THAT THIS SEPARATION IS A DEPARTURE TO A NEW HOME AND A FAR BETTER PLACE.

“Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also,” John 15:1-3.

“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for former thing are passed away,” Revelation 21:3-4.

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better,” Philippians 1:21-23.

  1. WE ARE ASSURED THAT THIS SEPARATION IS A REST FROM ALL THEIR EARTHLY TOIL AND FOR A REWARD IN ETERNITY.

“And I heard a voice from heaving saying unto me, write, blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them,” Revelation 14:13.

“To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,” 1 Peter 1:4. Our heavenly inheritance is everything that our earthly inheritance is not. It is incorruptible, undefiled, fades not away, and is reserved in Heaven for us.

  1. WE ARE ASSURED THAT AS BELIEVERS WE TOO WILL ONE DAY EXPERIENCE A GLORIOUS RESURRECTION AND GLORIFIED BODY LIKE JESUS.

“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself,” Philippians 3:20-21.

“Behold, I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the death shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory,” 1 Corinthians 15: 51-54.

“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: if so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life,” 2 Corinthians 5:1-4.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
O what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blessed
Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long

Oh what a Savior, wonderful Jesus

Death could not hold You, You are victorious
Praise to the risen King
Death could not hold You, You are victorious
Praise to the risen King

Oh what a Savior, wonderful Jesus
Oh what a Savior

Wonderful Savior
