where faith begins anxiety ends

Hebrews 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

One definition of grace is “the finished work of God in Christ.” The stress and anxieties of life can be destroyed by faith in God, or faith in the finished work of God. Where anxiety begins, faith ends; but where faith begins, anxiety ends. Real faith in the grace of God is a rest and produces a relaxed attitude of trust within us. There is no rest outside of faith in the grace and finished work of God. When we understand grace, it is the end of stress, anxiety, trying hard, and struggling.

When we worry, we are not acting like the work to take care of what we’re worrying about is finished. We are acting like a work still needs to be done. Yes, we need something done in our natural condition or circumstances to change, but the provision to change it has already been provided by God. God doesn’t need to send Jesus to do another work on the Cross. What we need is a greater revelation of the finished work of God on the cross, which was a total work of grace.

There is a rest we enter into at the point of our salvation where we cease from our own works to be right with God and trust in Jesus’ work (Matthew 11:28-30). There is a spiritual rest also that remains for every believer to enter into by mixing their faith with the facts of their redemption in Christ, not only from sin but also from sickness, satan, and the curse. We labor to enter into that rest. The word in the KJV Bible for the word “labour” in Hebrews 4:11 is the same word translated “study” in 2 Timothy 2:15. We should labor in the Word of God until our heart comes to a relaxed attitude of trust (rest) in the finished work of Jesus. How long? Long enough for the anxiety to end and our faith to rise up in its place or come to the forefront of our thoughts which is where anxiety operates (Matthew 6:29-34). We need to exercise the faith we’ve been given and at the point of the release of our faith, is the point anxiety ends. Jesus has defeated our enemy and made all the provisions we would ever need available to us by a response of faith.
