What we believe influences everything we think, say, and do. Beliefs produce behavior. If we find someone who is behaving badly it is rooted in a lie they are believing. We have to expose the lie to change the behavior. We must be valiant for the truth and speak it loud and clear
Jesus told us very plainly that our adversary, the devil, is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44). Satan’s only power is to deceive us and deception is simply believing a lie instead of the truth. If he cannot get us to believe a lie he cannot hurt or influence us to do evil. The power of his lies is to get us to believe a lie not to tell a lie (1 Kings 22:21-24). This is what is said of those who will be deceived by that one called the antichrist is that they will believe a lie. Second Thessalonians 2: 9-12 says, “9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they RECEIVED NOT THE LOVE OF THE TRUTH, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should BELIEVE A LIE: 12 That they all might be damned who BELIEVED NOT THE TRUTH, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
We are living in our world in the cultural period defined by some as postmodernism whose main characteristics are the death of truth, no absolutes, and relativism. Jesus said God’s Word is truth (John 17:17) and we need the truth more and more in our lives, in our preaching and teaching, in our Churches and ministries in these perilous times. It is no coincidence that those that satan has success over in departing from the faith are those who he influences to turn away their ears from the truth (2 Timothy 4:1-4).
It is also said of that one who will come forth known as the antichrist as well as the antichrist spirit which is already at work in the world will do three things: “And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it CAST DOWN THE TRUTH TO THE GROUND; AND IT PRACTISED AND PROSPERED Daniel 8:12.”
Cast down the truth to the ground.
2. Practises (or practices sin; advances it; brings it forth).
3. Prosper (push forward; break out; become mighty).
Everything in our world that does these three things is the work of the antichrist spirit that is already here, the forerunner of the antichrist himself. As his lies cause the truth to be cast to the ground, sin will be practiced, advance, and be pushed forward. The good news is that we are the ones in possession of the Truth (God’s Word), we serve a Leader who is the Truth (Jesus), and we have the Spirit of Truth (the Holy Spirit) to lead, teach, strengthen, and guide us. Our enemy can’t handle the truth neither can he handle us when we use it.
