1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
I praise God for Heaven, and I know I am going there one day but like most people I need Heaven’s help NOW. The Good News is that the Bible is a NOW Book or a Book for the “now” time of our life. If we are going to rely upon God at the hour of our death to raise us from the grave to take us to Heaven, we can surely trust Him for the things we face now. So often we are unable to live in peace now because we get burdened with life, its worries and its cares. As a Pastor I’ve seen the cares of this life (Mark 4:14-19) interrupt, postpone, and even cancel peoples service to God. It slowly chips away at their faithfulness and steadfastness causing their energy and commitments to wane. We are not designed to carry burdens, worries, and cares. We have a God Who cares for us and cares about what is burdening us.
He says to “Cast all your cares upon Him….” GOD DOESN’T TAKE OUR CARES FROM US, WE CAST THEM UPON HIM. The cares that are on us we are to cast upon or up on Him. God wants us to and invites us to cast ALL of our cares, not some of our cares, on Him. First Peter 5:7 doesn’t say God will give us the grace to carry them but we are supposed to cast them or throw them to Him. As long as we don’t cast them, He doesn’t have them, we do. We are also nullifying the effects of our prayers (Philippians 4:6), giving place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27) to choke (smother) the Word in our heart (Mark 4:19).
It takes a humble heart to relinquish the care of our life to God’s loving concern but we serve a good God. Matthew 7:11 says, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him.” Fulfill your responsibilities, do all you know to do, but do it carefree by casting your cares upon the Lord.
