Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, BOTH LORD AND CHRIST.
Many Bible scholars agree that the phrase, “Jesus is Lord,” is one of the earliest Christian creeds or expressions that says, “I believe.” In the NT time while under Roman rule, Caesar claimed to be divine and lord. Calling Jesus Lord established Jesus as Lord but also identified a person who refused to worship Caesar, a refusal punishable by death.
God made Jesus BOTH LORD AND CHRIST. Christ means the anointed one and Messiah. Lord means the One Who has Authority, the Owner or legal guardian; and the Master to whom service was due by virtue of His resurrection. Everyone seems to love to talk about the anointing of Jesus but not the authority of Jesus. Being under His anointing will bless you but being under His authority will build you or mature you.
Remember, the Early Church didn’t have the written New Testament as we do. They did have a revelation, though, of Jesus as Lord and they turned the world upside down. Believers love talking about the anointing of Jesus; but not much is ever said about being under the authority of Jesus. He is BOTH LORD AND CHRIST. May the Lord return us to the authority and power of Jesus as Lord.
