Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Every Believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is the workmanship of God. It was totally the work of God through Jesus and not the work of man. There are to be works from our faith or from being saved. We are not saved BY works (Ephesians 2:7-9) but FOR works (Ephesians 2:10). In James 2:14-26, James was declaring the proof of faith being works that follow. He was addressing a mere profession with no accompanying evidence or works. A faith that does not concern itself with active participation to meet the needs of others is not faith at all. They are not done out of guilt or as penance to make up for wrongdoing, but as a sign of our faith.
James 2:18 says, “Yea, a man may say, Thou has faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.”
In a local church where God has given a vision, a purpose, a reason for its existence, our faith in the vision can be seen by our works. I will show you my faith in the vision God’s given me by my works. Like Noah, who labored 120 years by faith, all on the basis of things not seen and only on the basis of what God said. That is faith in the vision.
James 2:19, “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”
Such belief is good, but if it does not issue forth into deeds, acts, or works, it is no higher of a belief than what demons believe. The following verses are two examples of how our works show our faith.
James 2:21, “Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?”
James 2:25, “Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?”
These events or works they did were after their initial justification by God, and by them they demonstrated their initial experience was a real one. Their works gave evidence that their initial experience was valid. Their works gave evidence that faith is inside their heart, just like the Spirit gives evidence that life is there. What you see outside shows there is life inside. God’s intention was that something should show up as a result of our receiving and experiencing salvation by faith alone.
