The Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison Genesis 39:21.
The favor of God can come when we are in difficult places and strange places. Would you expect to find favor in a prison, especially when you are the prisoner? When Joseph was falsely accused of seducing his boss’s wife, he was sent to prison. While in prison, “The Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison” (Gen. 39:21). Joseph was so highly favored that the head of the prison gave Joseph the authority over all the prisoners, and did not “look over Joseph’s shoulder” to check out his faithfulness (Gen. 39:23). This story reveals an outstanding truth. Your present condition or your surroundings have no bearing on God’s ability to bring favor into your life.
Have you ever been abandoned, forsaken, and forgotten? Does it seem like your future is shattered and you see nothing ahead but struggle? That is what happened to Joseph. When life is the pits or circumstances seem to have us confined, like Joseph in the pit and prison (Genesis 37:23, 24; 39:4, 21), don’t forget you have favor with God and His favor will promote you. The people, the pit, nor the prison can stop God favoring you.
