MASTERING OUR EMOTIONS

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

One of the devil’s strategies to stop progress and growth in our lives is to get us to live in hurt in our emotions. Jesus, though, said there is power given to us so that no hurt has to stay permanent Luke 10:19. Emotions are feelings caused by pain or pleasure that try to move us in a certain direction, either toward or away from the will of God for our life. When emotions dominate they can lead us away from the will of God for our life. When we take control of our thoughts by lining them up to the Word of God, our emotions will fall in line with our thinking and take us toward the will of God for our life. We can master them and not let them master us.

Our emotions are a product of our thoughts. We cannot have an emotion without a thought.  When we are feeling something we are also thinking something. If we are not thinking right, it will show up in our emotions.  When we learn to control our thoughts we can control our emotions because they follow your thoughts. The Scriptures do not say much about controlling our emotions, but there is much said about controlling our thoughts (i.e. Philippians 4:8). We can bring into captivity EVERY thought contrary to the knowledge of God’s Word and therefore we can control EVERY hindering emotion (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).
