One of the greatest truths about Jesus and the Christmas birth is that it is when grace appeared. it is when the grace of God that bringeth salvation appeared. As Titus 2:11-14 says “11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
Notice there are two appearing mentioned: one a part of history (past); one a part of prophecy (future). One called the appearance of grace; one called the appearance of glory. The time in between the two appearings, which is where we live, is the age or season of grace. The nature of Christ’s first appearing, beginning at Bethlehem in the manger and everything until His appearing for us is ALL GRACE. Glory to God!
We live in a society that has many in it that make Christmas center around everything but Jesus and His Virgin Birth. It is up to Christians to proclaim the true meaning of Christmas to our politically correct world. It is part of the history of our Christ and it shouldn’t matter who that history offends. I refuse to be silent about it and refuse to merely say “Happy Holidays,” in my greetings. I will honor Him with my worship, substance, and church attendance. There would be no reason for Christmas without the appearance of grace, or without Jesus. Jesus is all we need. Give Jesus the pre-eminence only He deserves (Colossians 1:18). Celebrate Jesus this Christmas.
