Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
There came a time in the ministry of Jesus that He would take His last journey from Galilee to Jerusalem. Luke says that He, “… stedfastly set His face to go up to Jerusalem,” which meant that He firmly determined to accomplish his purpose. His purpose required focus and determination for Him to accomplish it.
God has given all Believers a purpose (that is general and specific) for being on planet Earth (Ecclesiastes 3:1). As we begin to understand it, see it more clearly (vision), and pursue it, our lives will be filled with meaning, motivation, and passion. Yes, it can be revealed to us (Galatians 1:15, 16), we can know it (1 Corinthians 2:9, 10), and we can press into it to apprehend it (Philippians 3:12-14).
It requires focus (Luke 9:51) and constant dependence (2 Corinthians 3:4, 5) on God to fulfill the works we have been foreordained to do (Ephesians 2:10). We will be tempted a thousand times to turn back, turn away, or get off track with lesser things. SATAN DOES NOT HAVE TO DESTROY US TO DEFEAT US, ONLY DISTRACT US. Sometimes our enemy destroys our focus off of our assignment by giving us another assignment or goal thus diverting our energy, time, and resources. We must learn to say no to the demands of lesser things and keep our eyes on the target. Sometimes we can think we are great at multi-tasking but all it does is get us off course. Paul said, “But this one thing I do …” Philippians 3:13.
