One of the realities we face living in this world is exposure to sickness and disease. Some try to say that sickness is a blessing in disguise and God uses it to make us better people. I admire people who display Christ-like character while coping with a sickness or infirmity in their body but God wants His children living free from it and we can exercise our faith to be healed Acts 14:7-10. Faith is built on the knowledge of God’s will and we cannot have faith beyond our personal knowledge of God’s will. Knowledge of His will comes from His Word for His Word is His will. We need more knowledge of God about how He views sickness to:

A. Develop spiritual resistance against sickness.
B. Keep it from being an accepted and an expected way of life.
C. See that it is not a blessing in disguise.

One of the things I have found helpful to help me set my will, become single-minded, and fight the good fight of faith is to see God’s names for sickness:

1. WOUND (SMOTE) Job 2:7
2. AFFLICTION Job 37:23
3. CAPTIVITY Job 42:10
4. CURSE/PLAGUE Deuteronomy 28:15, 61.
5. LANGUISHING Psalm 41:3.
6. DESTRUCTION Psalm 107:20.
7. OPPRESSION Acts 10:38.
8. BONDAGE Luke 13:16.

I would conclude sickness is not a blessing in disguise. Jesus wants you to be strong and in good health.
