2 Thessalonians 2: 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they RECEIVED NOT THE LOVE OF THE TRUTH, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should BELIEVE A LIE: 12 That they all might be damned who BELIEVED NOT THE TRUTH, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Jesus told us very plainly that our adversary, the devil, is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44). Satan’s only power is to deceive us and deception is simply believing a lie instead of the truth. If he cannot get us to believe a lie he cannot hurt or influence us to do evil. The power of his lies is to get us to believe a lie not merely to tell a lie. In 1 Kings 22:21-24 it speaks of a lying spirit that would persuade people and be in the mouth of all of the (false) four hundred prophets of the land (not the one prophet of the Lord). This is what is said of those who will be deceived by that one called the antichrist is that they will believe a lie (2 Thess. 2:11). The spirit of antichrist is already in the world (1 John 4:3) and it is the spirit of error (1 John 4:6) or the spirit that deceives, leads astray, and produces mistaken views.
What we believe influences everything we think, say, and do in all areas of life whether it is in our family, business, Church, or politics. Beliefs produce behavior. If we find someone who is behaving badly it is rooted in a lie they are believing. We have to expose the lie to change the behavior. We must be valiant for the truth and speak it loud and clear.
