John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
Today there is renewed enthusiasm about preaching and discovering the exceeding riches of God’s grace. In my personal experience, coming from a “work for your salvation religion” and a religion that said, “If in the end of your life the good outweighs the bad you can go to heaven,” grace was the most liberating truth I experienced. As a Pastor I realize some ministries are assigned a message emphasis God gives them to major on or to be strong in which is great. The Apostle Paul told his son in the faith, Timothy, to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 2:1). I have also grown to learn that “no one truth is it” for growth in grace. Jesus gave us the keys of the kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 16:19) not just one key. We need all the keys.
In some of the distorted teachings on grace that are so popular today they are failing to see that not only did grace come by Jesus but also truth. “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ John 1:17.” Grace needs linked with truth, ALL THE TRUTH, in God’s word 2 Timothy 3:16, 17 to get a proper perspective. In contrast, some of what is being preached today is not the true grace of God and they are leaving out some parts of the truth of God’s Word. In fact, the way some portray grace, Jesus Himself would not qualify to be an authority on grace because of the way He preached truth to the seven churches in Revelation chapters 1-3. They were in existence in the Church Age and Age of Grace and yet where was the “so called grace” in the messages Jesus preached to them? He was positive to only one of the seven but told five of the seven to repent. Now where is the grace, Jesus? Let me help you, it was there in the rebuke, my friend, giving His people a space to repent and an opportunity to confess their sin to obtain the mercy provided. Mercy (or the grace of forgiveness) can be obtained if they would confess their sin 1 John 1:9. Remember, Jesus gave us the KEYS of the kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 16:19) not just one KEY. We need all the keys.
