COMFORT IN ALL OUR TRIALS

2 Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the GOD OF ALL COMFORT; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

God our Father, as a part of His grace and mercy, reveals to us in these verses that we can expect to have comfort available to us in all of our trying circumstances. There are times when no human being can relieve the real distress and pain in our soul. Our trials and our pain however slight or severe have His attention. No test, pain, or struggle is too great for God’s ability to comfort us. Meditate upon these verses and thoughts:

1. V. 3 God is both the Author and Source of ALL the comfort a believer could need.
2. V. 4 He comforts us in ALL our tribulations and receiving comfort qualifies us to comfort others. Comfort is there for every trial.
3. V. 5 Just as the sufferings of Christ abound so also does our consolation (comfort/encouragement) abound. We have comfort not equal to our pain but abounding comfort.
4. V. 6 The sufferings of others and their testimony of receiving comfort should be shared to help others endure the same sufferings. We have a responsibility to minister the comfort we’ve received to one another. We also need to be committed to relationships in the fellowship of our church beyond attendance in order to tap into this comfort.
5. V. 7 We can expect to be partakers of comfort just as we have been partakers of the same sufferings our leaders have been through.
