2 Corinthians 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
Lamentations 3:21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
The Bible says it is unwise to compare ourselves with one another 2 Corinthians 10:12. When we compare ourselves among ourselves we can even discourage ourselves. The reason is that when we compare ourselves to others we tend always compare our weaknesses to their strengths; or our failures to their successes. We often say I wish I could be like them or do what they do. The Bible says this is unwise.
Everyone has weaknesses and everyone has failed at one time or another. Our failures devastate us because they seem to point out our imperfections and we do not know how to be imperfect. We always want to appear strong, feel big, and never show weakness. We need to know a few realities about failure to encourage ourselves:
1. EVERYONE FACES FAILURE.
(a) Every failure is not our fault.
(b) Every failure is not final. Life isn’t over just because we failed. His mercies are new every morning and great is His faithfulness Lam. 3:21-23.
2. GOD DOES NOT ABANDON US IN OUR FAILURE.
(a) He gives us chance after chance.
(b) He keeps urging us to fulfill our purpose and He does not change it.
(c) He is committed to our completion and will not give up on us Philippians 1:6.
3. OUR FAILURES DO NOT DEFINE US.
(a) Every failure does not make us a failure.
(b) We are who God says we are; we have what God says we have; and we can do what God says we can do!
DON’T GIVE UP ON YOURSELF
