1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

God loved us while we were in our worst state and condition with nothing in us that would warrant or compel Him to love us (Romans 5:8). His ultimate expression of love was in sending His Son Jesus to die for us, the just for the unjust. His love didn’t overlook sin or act like it didn’t exist or didn’t matter but rather sent Jesus to take the penalty and judgment for our sin. The total reign of God’s grace is made possible for the Christian because it was purchased by the precious blood of Jesus. We should never think of grace separate from the price paid by Jesus for it or we can end up minimizing sin. God can treat us just as if we’d never sinned or justified (Romans 3:24) because our judgment, our guilty verdict fell on the blood of an innocent substitute. The highest court in the universe, the throne room of God, says “not guilty.” Now that is love, the love of God.

I think satan also attacks us more often to doubt God’s love as much as anything else. If we doubt someone’s love we will not trust their words or anything else they have for us. There are numerous examples of this in the Word of God where people did not trust God in an area of therir life because they doubted His love.

Adam and Eve were tempted to think God really did not have their best interest in mind when He told them not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They were doubting God’s love.

In Numbers 11, the children of Israel murmured about the manna, we remember the flesh we ate in Egypt freely. The cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic in our soil are dried up and there is nothing at all beside this manna. What is this manna that you’ve given us.Do you know what you are doing? They were rejecting God’s provision and doubting God’s love.

In Numbers 14, they murmured against Moses and said would to God we die in the land of Egypt. Did you lead us out here to die in the wilderness? They were rejecting God’s direction and doubting God’s love.

In Numbers 16, once again they murmured against leadership, who do they think they are; they are not the only ones who are holy and can do anything. They were rejecting God’s leadership and God’s love.

In Malachi 3:14,15 the people said it is vain to serve God. What profit is it that we serve God and have kept His ordinance. They that work wickedness are built up and getting ahead. They were rejecting God’s ways and God’s love.

Remember the devil knows that if we doubt God’s love we will not trust His Word. I do not think God approves of doubt; but I think He would rather us doubt His power, ability, or can He rather than His love, willingness, and will He. I think the thing that inspires faith is knowing His love – faith works by love; both His and ours. If the devil can get us to doubt God’s love he can get us to then reject God’s plan for our lives. It’s hard to trust someone with your life if you don’t think they love you. When we believe the love He has for us we can accept His plan and then we can disarm the enemy’s lies and walk in the fullness of all He has for us in this life.
