The tragedy that hit our nation on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 has affected all of us in the American family. Of course, nowhere near how it affected those who have suffered loss of a loved one, the first responders, those living in the city close to where it happened, or like the brave rescuers who worked night and day.
The Bible says that in the Last days evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived (2 Timothy 3:13). This came from the evil hearts of wicked men (Matthew 15:19, 20). Proverbs reveals that “…evil men…for their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief,” Proverbs 24:1,2. David said, “Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man; which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war,” Psalm 140:1, 2.
It is fifteen years later and contrary to the political spin the perpetrators are not diminished nor are they on the run. Could God ever have a controversy with a nation? Of course (read Hosea 4:1-4; Jeremiah 5:7-9) and ONLY repentance can resolve it. My question is CAN GOD help us? I believe there is within America a Godly, holy, and righteous remnant like in the days of sinful Judah who the Prophet Isaiah said, “Except the Lord of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah Isaiah 1:9.” Here are some things I also know:
GOD CAN turn an enemies war schemes back on them 2 Chronicles 20.
GOD CAN bring rulers or leaders to their knees Daniel 5:17-28.
GOD CAN protect a people and defend a nation Ezekiel 38:12; Zechariah 12:8, 9; 14:3.
GOD CAN cause wars to cease and break a groups weapons Psalm 46:7-9.
GOD CAN relay His intelligence about our enemies plans 2 Kings 6:12; Daniel 2:22.
GOD CAN cause hard evidence linking seditious perpetrators to surface 2 Kings 6:6 (He caused axe head to surface).
GOD CAN alter nature to give us an advantage in a battle. In Joshua 10:7-11 God threw rocks at the enemy; v.12-14 caused sun and moon to stop; v.15-17 revealed where the enemy was hiding in caves.
Our nation’s safety does not depend on the might of our military. Only our God can make America what it should be and return us to our foundations. As Christians we need to take this as a call to arms and to our mightiest weapon – the weapon of prayer.
