Our covenant with God states that He will bless us and make us a blessing. That means we become both a “receiver” of blessing and a “channel of blessing.” To be blessed and be a blessing we must make what’s important to God important to us. We cannot overlook or under-emphasize anything. Although money passes through all of our hands most of us are not taught about money, financial literacy or that financial intelligence is an intelligence. God’s thoughts on any given subject are higher than our thoughts and we must renew our mind to His thoughts. The money we have or will have all has one thing in common: “Money does not come with instructions” on how to use it wisely. We must use Biblical principles and wisdom to manage the resources God has entrusted to us. In Christ, we are positioned for blessing due to His finished work. We did not earn it, work for it, or deserve it. Grace is what God did (Who hath blessed us … Eph.1:3.) but faith is what we do to stay positioned for financial blessing. There are numerous things that the Bible reveals that have an effect on financial blessing:
1. RELATING TO MONEY AS STEWARDS AND NOT OWNERS
a. Surrender ownership of all you have to God (Ps. 24:1). We’re stewards – He’s the owner. As stewards, God is at the center of our decisions of what to do with it, not us (Lk. 12:13-21).
b. Give some – Ten percent tithe, offerings, giving to the poor;
Save some – We can have a storehouse (Dt. 28:8).
Spend some – Prodigal spent all and was in want (Luke. 15:13, 14).
c. Tell your money where to go – use a budget, which is a plan for giving, saving, and spending.
2. ESTABLISHING THE WORD IN OUR HEART FIRST TO BUILD A SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION
3 Jn. 2 – It’s God’s will but it happens even as your soul prospers.
Josh. 1:8 … thou shalt meditate therein day and night for THEN ….
Mtt. 7:24-27 – Foundation needs to be built before the storms.
Do we just want money and continue to have a carnal worldly view about money or do we want to think like God thinks about it?
3. CORRESPONDING ACTIONS OF FAITH (GIVING IS THE ACTION)
a. By establishing the tithe (Mal. 3:9-11).
b. By breakthrough giving in offerings (Lk. 6:38) or seed sowing 2 Cor. 9:6-8. (Breakthrough giving always comes before breakthrough receiving.)
c. By giving to the poor (Pr. 19:17).
d. By obedience to give in prophetic moments (2 Chr. 20:20; 1 Ki. 17:1-16; 2 Ki. 4; Lk. 5:1-11)
4. OUR WORDS AND TONGUE WORKING FOR US AND NOT AGAINST US
Pr. 18:20,21 – Our tongue needs to talk in agreement with, not against, the increase of God.
Pr. 10:20 – The tongue of the just is as choice silver…. Use your words like money as the medium of exchange in the spirit world.
Mal. 3:13-15 – Our words can be stout (firm, strong, severe, obstinate) against God.
5. WORKING IN OUR JOBS OR BUSINESSES AS UNTO THE LORD (Col. 3:22-24; Dt. 12:7; 15:10).
Work is not a curse but a gift from God Eccl. 5:19. God blesses the work of our hands.
6. LISTENING TO THE VOICE OF WISDOM IN OUR DECISIONS (Pr. 8:12-21)
Wisdom speaks and causes us to inherit substance.
7. KEEPING OUR EYES ON GOD THE SOURCE OF ALL RESOURCES (Dt. 8:18).
The channel (our job, business, employer, investment) may change, but God remains the same. Our expectation needs to be centered only on Him (Ps. 62:5).
