John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
What is going on in our world and in America that is nothing but pure evil, from the devil, and fallen men, is cause for grieving. Tribulation, troubles, and trials will be a part of our experience while living in this fallen world but we can also be of good cheer. Not because we like what we see going on in opposition to God’s Word but because Jesus has overcome the world. He said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Good cheer, joy, and rejoicing is ours because of Jesus’ victory. Jesus HAS overcome the world, not “going to,” not “I will,” not “I’m in the process of,” not “someday I plan to,” but I HAVE.
He defeated sin. WHERE? In the world.
He defeated sickness. WHERE? In the world.
He defeated satan. WHERE? In the world.
He defeated the curse. WHERE? In the world.
His overcoming the world and victory on the Cross is the basis of our joy. Our joy is based on something unchangeable and an already accomplished fact. Every Christian has measure of world overcoming faith dealt to them at salvation. Things may have changed in our world but world overcoming faith has not changed. It is still the victory that overcomes the world. 1 John 5:4 says, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”
