hope makes us see

Ephesians 1: 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 THE EYES OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING BEING ENLIGHTENED; that ye may know what is THE HOPE of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Our God is a need meeting God. Often we do not receive from Him because of a lack of understanding of the force of Bible hope. Bible hope is hope that comes from God’s Word or promises. Hebrews 11:1 says some key things we need to understand about hope. It says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Notice the end of each sentence “… things hoped for … things not seen.” The things we hope for are the things not seen by the natural eye but the things we hope for are actually seen by our spiritual eyes when we lay hold of one of God’s hope filled promises. Hope deals with what we cannot physically see but we do see it inside with our spiritual eyes, our mind’s eye, or as Ephesians 1:17, 18 says, “… the eyes of your understanding being enlightened ….” The eyes of our heart or inner man are enlightened, illuminated, or made to see.

Whenever someone has lost hope (which is what discouragement is) we often hear them say things like, “I can’t see how this will ever change.” “I just can’t see anything getting better.” From the natural or from natural sight that sounds true. When a person has no hope from the natural it means the picture looks bad from natural sight. We always have some kind a picture (hope) inside. There is really no such thing as no hope (or no picture inside); in reality there is only natural hope (the picture the natural gives us), evil hope (despair and a bad picture inside) and Bible hope (the picture the promise of God gives us). Our experiences in life, good or bad, all create pictures inside of us that influence our outlook on life. This is where Bible hope can come in to help. We can stand in faith holding to the promise of God and the inner picture hope gives.

Understand that hope from a promise is God’s picture making power in us. Hope will create a picture. Bible hope gives us spiritual sight from light that comes from the entrance of His Word. Ps 119:130 says, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. The light from God’s Word or promise gives us hope, a picture, and inner sight. Hope is the light and hope gives us sight. It’s a picture, vision or revelation of something we see from light of the Word in our spirit to our mind. Once we lay hold of that picture, we can use it to combat the picture the natural presents us. Abraham, against natural hope (the picture outside) believed in hope (the picture the promise made inside) Romans 4:18.
