Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Real Bible faith produces obedience and is proof of a living faith. Obedience is the fruit of faith. Imagine if Noah had today’s version of faith which is really mental assent. He could have confessed, “I believe God said build an ark,” or “I believe judgment is coming,” but never obeyed, never acted on his belief, or never made preparations to build the ark. He would have drowned like the rest of the world and we wouldn’t be talking about his faith. He would have died because his faith was dead. If there is obedience, faith is real and alive. Obedience is the supreme test of a real faith or belief in God’s Word.
Professions of faith are a part of a life of faith but only part. Without obedience, without action, we have a mere religion of words. Professions of faith are a part of a life of faith but only part. Without obedience, without action, we have a mere religion of words. You can see the difference in the following contrasts. Some say:
“I believe in Church,” but the obedient show up.
“I believe in prayer, “ but the obedient pray.
“I believe in the Bible is spiritual food,” but the obedient read it, study it, and meditate on it.
“I believe in tithing,” but the obedient bring it and present it to the storehouse.
“I believe in the Great Commission,’ but the obedient Preach the Gospel, share their faith, and make disciples.
As you can see, faith without obedience to the Word is not sincere faith nor is it a belief that is alive. Mentally assenting to a truth in God’s Word is not the same as actively obeying it or having the obedience of faith.
